Process for the hydrodealkylation of alkyl-aromatic hydrocarbons, process for the hydrodesulfurization of a hydrocarbon gas stream, and catalyst therefor

An alkylaromatic hydrocarbon feed stream is hydrodeal- kylate in the presence of a catalyst having a reduced rate of deactivation, or a lower coking tendency. The catalyst comprises a gamma-alumina support containing 8 to 12 wt% Cr₂0₃ and 0.2 to 0.7 wt% Na₂0 and having a surface area from 175 to 275 m²/g and a pore volume from 0.5 to 1.2 cc/g. The catalyst is also useful in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene containing hydrocarbon streams.
