This method is characterized (A) by incorporating into the fluid heat exchange an operationally effective amount of a surfactant composition comprising viscoelastic 1) a surfactant compound having a hydrophobic moiety chemically bonded to an ionic hydrophilic moiety and 2) an electrolyte of which is capable of associating with the surfactant ion to form a surfactant viscoelastic, and B) by forming a flow rate and a temperature of the heat exchange fluid such that the heat transfer fluid has the desired total heat transfer coefficient. By using this method, it is possible to obtain a high heat transfer coefficient in a region of heat exchange at elevated temperature in conjunction with a reduction of the hydrodynamic resistance and a low heat transfer coefficient in the distribution lines .
