A process for making glazed or unglazed ceramic facing panels, which possess an irregularly extending peripheral edge or recesses extending through the panel body, into which insert parts can be fitted. The peripheral edge of the panels or of the recesses is cut by means of a laser beam into the ceramic facing panel which has already been finally pressed, baked and, if appropriate, glazed.
