The invention relates to a method of producing artistic original picture illustrations or imitations of original picture illustrations, in which colours are transferred to the picture-receiving element by means of a squeegee through apertures in a screen, net or mesh fabric, said screen apertures being closed at the non-printing points. To provide a novel picture impression, it is proposed according to the invention that dry pigments are used as colours, to which a fine-grained material, e.g. sand, is admixed, that a screen or the like is used with screen apertures which are smaller than the grain size of the fine-grained material, and that the screen or the like is arranged with a spacing above the picture-receiving element, so that the screen or the like does not touch the picture-receiving element when the squeegee is drawn over it under pressure.
