The invention relates to a process for drying laundry in a laundry dryer or washer dryer, with a heating phase, the duration of which is pre-selectable and/or dependent on the laundry dampness, and with a subsequent cooling phase. The solution according to the invention comprises essentially of the variable duration of the cooling phase. The purpose of the process is that, after the process has been carried out, the laundry to be dried should have the desired temperature and the desired residual dampness.
