For adjusting the possible maximum speed to the load-bearing capacity of the tyres, the maximum speed of travel attainable by the motor vehicle is limited to a maximum speed adjustable as a function of the actual load of the motor vehicle, especially of the actual control pressure of an existing level control device and thereby as a function of the actual load of the motor vehicle, by intervening in the power output control, this particular attainable maximum speed being reduced as the loading of the motor vehicle increases. Should operating malfunctions occur, the engine power is regulated to the lower limit of a predetermined maximum speed range.
