The invention relates to a closable container (1) for receiving laboratory samples, hazardous waste or the like. In order to reliably prevent any risk of infection when handling such materials, a container is proposed comprising a receiving vessel (2) and a cover (3), there being provided between the receiving vessel (2) and the cover (3) a latch closure (5, 9) which prevents renewed opening of the container (1) after the cover (3) has been put on. The container which is designed as a disposable container is made of plastic and can be produced as a universal container in the most variable sizes. IMAGE
