A cutting-to-length installation and a cutting-to-length method for boards (7) or the like are proposed. The cutting-to-length installation essentially consists of a conveying path (3) and a circular cross-cut saw (6). In the area of the circular cross-cut saw (6), drive devices (4, 5) are provided on both sides of the cutting plane (8). The drive devices (4, 5), in combination with a central control system, permit defined transport of the material to be cut to length. The drive device (5) arranged behind the cutting plane (8) can be displaced into a remote position (9) so that poor material sections can fall down in an area (23) open to the bottom, while only the good material sections are taken by means of the conveying path (3) to a stacking device for example. Automatic, multiple cutting-to-length of boards or the like can be effected by means of this installation, defective sections being sorted out at the same time. IMAGE
