The system for dispensing fluids from a machine may be applied to a petrol pump supplying petrol to known customers, and charging them accordingly. The supply pipe (13) is surrounded by a disc (1) which has its plane perpendicular to the pipe axis. Within the disc there are a number of magnetic relay switches (2) connected back to controls within the dispenser. The pipe (12) via which the receiving container is filled is of slightly larger diameter, and also has a disc around it. This includes a coded arrangement of embedded magnets which are able to operate the magnetic relays when the two discs are close together. By the arrangement of magnets, the dispenser identifies the recipient. The arrangement is such that no fluid may be dispensed unless a suitable disc is in contact with, or very close to, the dispenser disc.
