Fluorohydrocarbyloxymonophosphazene compounds corresponding to the general formula IMAGE , in which Z denotes an oxygen or sulphur atom, R represents a fluorinated monovalent hydrocarbyl residue and in particular a fluorohydrocarbyl residue such as -CH2CF3, and x and y are integers such that 1 x 3 and 0 y 2. These compounds are prepared by reacting P2NOCl5 or P2NSCl5 with a fluoroalcohol ROH in the presence of a HCl acceptor, for example a tertiary amine or an alkali metal combined with alcohol in the form of an alkali metal alkoxide. The said compounds can be used, in particular, for forming stock oils for lubricating compositions.
