The invention relates to a feed supplement for lactating dairy cows and its application to the maintenance of the proportion of fat in the milk produced. The supplement comprises a basic cereal grain mixture having a proportion of proteins of at least 12% by weight, approximately 2 to 12% (of the weight of this supplement) of an essentially saturated fat which is added, and 0.5 to 4.5% (of the weight of this supplement) of a non-protein source of nitrogen, such as urea. This supplement may be added to a fodder source and/or to cereal grains. Supplied to dairy cows, this supplement maximises milk production while maintaining the normal proportions of digestibility of the fibres ingested or the level of fat in the milk produced.
