Safety control device 10 for a machine tool comprising a button 12 for manual control to be pushed in, mounted on the support plate 14, acting on an electric contact via a positive mechanical link for closing the contact and via a non-positive mechanical link for opening the contact, characterised in that it comprises a safety cut off relay arranged between the electric source S and the supply to the contact and a photoelectric detector arranged on the plate 14 whose beam is at the limit of interception of the upper portion of the control button 12 when the latter is in the raised position, the safety cut off relay being closed by the interceptor of the beam 30 by a physical obstacle constituted by the hand of the operator.
