The invention relates to a process for manufacturing reconstituted freestones (ashlars) having the appearance of reconstructed stones, and stones thus obtained. The process consists in mixing, in an appropriate container such as a concrete mixer, various ingredients in a plurality of successive stages of, namely, in a first stage, mixing aggregates consisting of compacted and crushed stones of uneven grain sizes, in a second stage, mixing the said aggregates with a hydraulic binder, in a third stage, mixing the said aggregates and the binder with water, and, in a fourth stage, mixing the said ingredients with one or more colouring agents; in distributing, in the formwork of a single stone, several batches made according to the above mixing procedure, but with different metered quantities of ingredients; in sprinkling, with white cement or with colouring agent, the visible surfaces of the concrete between two batches; and in scraping all or some of the faces of the stone thus removed from the mould.
