PURPOSE:The titled medicine containing a specific reduced glycylrrhetinic acid as a main constituent without side effects of the glycylrrhetinic acid. CONSTITUTION:A medicine containing olean-12-ene-3beta, 30-diol expressed by formula I as a main constituent. The glycylrrhetinic acid of formula II is effective against peptic ulcer, inflammation and allergic diseases clinically; however, has an Na storing and K diuretic action by the electrolytic action thereof, and particularly exhibits so-called pseudoaldosteronism, e.g. hypertension, hypokalemia or edema, by the abnormal electrolytic metabolism. The abnormality is believed to inhibit the activity of reductase conducting the metabolism of aldesteron by carrying out the DELTA4- 5alpha and 5beta-reduction of the aldesteron in the liver. The examination on the glycylrrhetinic acid derivative of formula II showed that the compound of formula I had a drug action equal to or more than that of the glyclrrhetinic acid without causing the side effects thereof.
