STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM FOR PROPOSITION EXPRESSED WITH LIST STRUCTURE

PURPOSE:To use position information to retrieve efficiently required lists from plural lists by providing an index for elements in propositions and storing position information, which indicate which positions and propositions these elements are used in, in a secondary storage device. CONSTITUTION:Propositions are expressed with a pointer in a list area 400 similarly to a list in a program and are stored in an atom area 404 in the list. The atom area 404 is provided with an atom index 405, and a list ID 403 is stored in a list ID index 402. A pointer to a proposition in a list area 401 for the atom area 404 is set. A pointer to an indicator index in an indicator area 406 is set to each atom in the atom area 404. With respect to the indicator index, information indicating which propositions and places atoms pointing this index are used in are changed by the pointer.
