A method of controlling a PFBC power plant in the event of an operational disturbance in a turbine-compressor unit (5) included in the plant, for example in the case of sudden load release. The turbine (21) and the compressor (22) are isolated from the bed vessel (4) of the plant by closing a valve (25) in the gas supply conduit (20) to the turbine (21) and by closing a valve (26) in the output conduit (24) from the compressor (22). At the same time a valve (31) is opened in a by-pass conduit (30) between the compressor (22) and the turbine (21). Combustion air is blown off into the atmosphere via one or more blowoff valves (33-35). From a pressure medium source (52), the bed vessel (4) and/or the space (7) between the pressure vessel (3) and the bed vessel (4) are supplied with inert gas in such a way that the flow of combustion air from said space (7) to the bed is prevented. The invention also relates to a PFBC power plant with equipment for carrying out the method.
