PURPOSE:To control the ignition timing precisely by dividing a crank angle equivalent to one ignition period into several sections of equal angles for judging which section the ignition timing belongs to and determining the ignition timing on the basis of the required time for rotation in the previous section. CONSTITUTION:An angle position rotor 11 to generate an angle position signal at every angle position of one twelfth rotation of a crank shaft 1 and a reference angle position rotor 12 to generate a reference position signal of one pulse per one combustion cycle are provided. The ignition timing is obtained from various sensors 391-398. It is obtained which section of the crank angle the ignition timing belongs to. Then, the number of revolutions is obtained on the basis of the required time for rotation in the previous section. By using this number of revolutions, the time from the starting point of that section to the ignition timing is obtained. This construction permits to control the ignition timing precisely.
