NOVEL ANTIFOULING AGENT AND SUBMARINE ANTIFOULING COATING MATERIAL USING SAID AGENT

PURPOSE:An antifouling agent, containing a water-insoluble material obtained by removing water-soluble components from a methyl alcohol extract of Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc. as an active constituent and capable of preventing marine animals and plants from attaching to ship bottom parts of ships, etc., by adding to a coating material for use. CONSTITUTION:An antifouling agent containing a water-insoluble material obtained by removing water-soluble components from a methyl alcohol extract of Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc. which is a perennial herb of the family Polygonaceae naturally and frequently growing in the field as an active constituent. In use, 1-80wt%, preferably 5-70wt% active component is contained in a coating material. Normally and generally used materials may be used as other raw materials used in an submarine antifouling coating material. For example, phenolic resins, high polymer resins for the coating materials, e.g. chlorinated rubber, slightly water-soluble resins, e.g. pine resin, are used as a vehicle and color pigments, e.g. titanium oxide, extender pigment, e.g. talc, various organic solvents, thickeners, etc., are used together, as necessary.
