Aluminium metal sheet carries an artificial protective layer, e.g. chromate-based or anodic oxide, and on the surface of the protective layer a strippable film of an organic paint or lacquer, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride. The sheet can be press-formed, and the strippable lacquer thereafter peeled off taking with it any adventitious dirt and press lubricant. The strippable films are useful in a method for converting aluminium sheet into an adhesively bonded structure of press-formed components.
