In a hydraulically powered circular section blade holder with a piston for lowering the circular blade into the material web and a spring-loaded piston for adjusting the circular blade laterally towards the lower edge, it being possible to move the said parts along a steel bar by means of a carrier with V-guideway, the smallest possible axial structural dimension is to be achieved without reducing the rigidity, in order to allow the smallest possible cutting widths to be set. It is hereby proposed that the lowering piston 3 and the lowering piston shaft 4 be guided in the carrier 1 in front of its vertically permeable carrier shaft 5a, the operating end 5 of the lowering piston shaft 4 having been rigidly connected to the end 6 of the carrier shaft 5a, which is directed towards the edge and to the carrier plate 7 of the adjusting mechanism 8 by means of a carrier 9.
