1415686 Voided polyester/polyolefin films IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Oct 1973 [24 Oct 1972 9 Feb 1973] 48931/72 and 6396/73 Heading B5B [Also in Divisions G2 and B2] An opaque voided polyester film which comprises 3 to 27% by wt. of a homo- or copolymer of ethylene or propylene blended with a linear polyester is made by extruding a loosely blended mixture of the polymers as a film, quenching, biaxially orienting the film by stretching in 2 mutually perpendicular directions and heat setting the film. The stretching creates voids in the film around the homo- or copolymer particles which opacify the film. Preferred are films of polyethylene terephthalate with polypropylene which are at least 25 Á thick and have a luminous transmission of up to 30%.
