A compound which is an azetidinone of formula (I): IMAGE or a salt thereof, in which formula: R represents a hydrogen atom; an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl radical having at most 12 carbon atoms; an optionally substituted cycloalkyl radical having from 3 to 8 carbon atoms; or an optionally substituted acyl, carbamoyl, aryl or aralkyl radical; R1 represents a hydrogen atom; an optionally substituted, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or thioalkyl radical having at most 12 carbon atoms; a free, esterified or salified carboxy radical; an optionally substituted aryl, acyl or carbamoyl radical; or an azido radical; R2d represents a tetrazolyl radical which is substituted by an organic radical able, by cleavage, to yield an acid hydrogen; and the wavy lines signify that the radical OR can be in the syn or anti form and that the azetidinone can be in the cis or trans form or in the form of a cis-trans mixture; the compound being in racemic or optionally active form, is novel and useful particularly as an antibiotic.
