The invention relates to a process and an apparatus to improve the circulation in a given direction of a fluid, preferably with a refrigerating function, of an absorption refrigeration machine. The device for improving the circulation in a given direction of this fluid, preferably with a refrigerating function, which circulates firstly essentially in the liquid phase in a circuit, preferably with a refrigerating function, of an absorption refrigeration machine, and which undergoes at a given point (1) of said circuit at least partially a change of phase, producing at least partially a vapour phase, is characterised in that it comprises, upstream of said point of change of phase, means (18) which reduce the cross-section of said circuit, limiting the passage of said fluid in the liquid phase so as to prevent circulation in the opposite direction or in return of the liquid fluid, thus favouring a preferential circulation in the desired given direction. These means (18) which reduce the cross-section of the circuit are preferably formed by at least one constriction (20) of the circuit at a given point, preferably defining a calibrated opening. The invention, by improving the circulation of the fluid which is preferably refrigerating, makes it possible to increase radically the thermal efficiency in such a manner that absorption refrigeration machines become competitive in relation to compression and expansion refrigerating devices.
