Quinazoline derivs. of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts are new. In (I) R = 1-4 C alkyl, benzyl or (3-6C cycloalkyl)-methyl; R1=1-4C alkyl; X is CH2CH2 substd. by one phenyl and opt. by 1 or 2 methyl; R2 = H, 1-4C alkyl or is phenyl opt. substd. by 1 or 2, 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, halo, CR3, CONR3R4 or SO2N-R3R4. R3 and R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl. (I) are prepd. e.g. from the corresp. 2-halo-quinazoline and appropriate 4-substd. piperidine. (I) are regulators of the cardiovascular system and are esp. useful for treating hypertension in animals and humans. The usual oral dose is 1-50 mg/day for a 70 kg adult and the intravenous dose is 10-20% of the oral dose.
