ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREMethod and arrangement for the contact-free qualityidentification and structural description of objects, forinstance workpieces, such as lengths of timber. The object isscanned by means of optoelectrical sensors of at least twodifferent types, being on the one hand sensors (2, 3, 9) withcoarse resolution for the measurement of all or large parts ofthe object and on the other hand sensors (4-8) with fineresolution for the detailed measurement of the object. By meansof the sensors of the first-mentioned type are determined thepresence and the position of any variations in quality which areof interest in this context. The nature of any such variations isthen determined by the sensors of the other type.
