ABSTRACTThere are disclosed several embodiments of anapparatus in which an annular ring is carried within a grooveabout one member for slidably engaging the cylindrical surfaceof another member. In certain of the embodiments, the ring isa seal ring to form a sealed joint, and, in anotherembodiment, the ring is a bearing ring to form a bearingassembly. In each case, a recess is formed in the side of thering intermediate lips or annular surfaces thereof whichslidably engage the cylindrical surface, and a metal ring ismoved into a position opposite the recess and radiallydistorted into the recess to retain the seal or bearing ringwithin the groove.- 22 -
