POWER PLANT INTEGRATING COAL-FIRED STEAM BOILER WITH AIR TURBINE

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA power plant is disclosed in which a steam turbine/coal-fired steam boiler is integrated with an air turbinevia using the convection section of the boiler to heatcompressed air for the turbine, by indirect heat exchangewith the flue gas, the hot turbine exhaust being sent tothe boiler as preheated combustion air. In this way, onlyclean air reaches the turbine and not combustion productswhich would result from direct firing of fuel in compressedair whereby coal may be burned instead of premium qualityfuels. Platens in the radiant section of the boiler areused both to regulate flue gas temperature and take oversome of the usual convection section services to release itfor compressed air heating service.
