In an automatic drinking trough for a livestock transporting ship for cows and sheep, to allow the livestock to drink automatically during transportation, inlet valves (4) are arranged over the entire length of the drinking trough (1), and a common actuating element (6) extending over a portion of the drinking trough (1) is allocated to actuate several respective inlet valves (4).
