In an assembling machine with a cyclically driven rotary table for accommodating a plurality of workpieces which are directed past substations which are arranged at least partly over the periphery of a fixed machine table and have a drive device for one or more machining devices arranged at the substation, at least one or more substations are provided with an indexing mechanism independent of the cycle of the rotary table. In this way, in particular at converter substations, an acceleration of the assembly can be achieved by overlapping cycles of machine and converter. The substations can be checked out independently of the central machine and can be set up at a greater distance without functional impairment occurring as a result of play in the drive members. A control shaft can be driven by means of a roller chain driven by the central machine. But any other type of drive, e.g. a motor, is also conceivable, so that the indexing mechanism can also be operated as an independent device.
