This invention relates to a method for the invitro production of cotton fibers comprising:providing a cell suspension of a strain of Gossypiumculturing said cell suspension in a liquid basal salts medium supplemented with a carbon source under conditions of time and temperature sufficient to promote cotton fiber production.
