Process for treating mixtures of fluorozirconate based glass melting to form a glass of high purity transparent to infrared that is essentially free of anion impurities and impurities due to the dissociation of zirconium fluoride. The molten mixture was treated in a reactive oxygen atmosphere dehumidified to prevent the formation of disassociation impurities or to remove any impurity in this way already present in the melt. The latter is also brought into contact simultaneously or subsequently with a reactive gas species of the fluorine to remove any anionic oxygen impurity formed during the treatment in a reactive oxygen atmosphere of the molten mixture to obtain a glass having a complete fluorine stoichiometry and free of anionic impurities and dissociation.
