The plug fastener comprises a plug (13)whose inner end portion is divided by slots (23) into laterally spreadable sections (22). The slots are engaged by wedged portions of an actuating member (12) provided at the inner end of the plug. The actuating member is moved to spread the sections by a bolt (11) extending through the plug. The head (16) of the bolt engages the inner end of the actuating member. The bolt is tightened by a nut (15) at the outer end of the plug. the bolt is a standard is a standard item with a slotted countersunk head secured against rotation.
