The board consists of a sheet (1) of insulating material bonded to a metal sheet (2). Sheet (2) is covered by an insulating board (5) so only the holes in the sheets (1,2) are exposed. Sheet (2) is made the cathode in an electroplating bath so a metal is deposited in the holes to make metal bushes (4). Sheet (1) is pref. a polymer foil or board bonded to sheet (2) by adhesive, whereas board (5) is pref. a polymer foil or board or a layer of lacquer, and is removed after depositing the bush. The process can be applied continuously to flexible strip esp. to make electric contacts in printed circuit boards. Extreme simplicity obtd. using known electroplating methods and plant.
