PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR ISOLATING FROM SOIL SAMPLES CYSTS OF ORGANISMS CAUSING DISEASES IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE

The arrangement is intended for treating a soil sample to separate the cysts containing organisms, such as eel worm, which produce crop disease, e.g. potato blight, in order to determine the cysts concn. in the soil. The sample is mixed with water in a vessel and the mixture subjected to centrifugal action whereby the cysts, forming the lighter fraction, collect at the water-air interface in the central vortex eye. The interface layer is drained (via central overflow tube and passed through a sieve to collect the sepd. cysts for subsequent counting. Used in sepg. cysts of crop disease-producing organisms from soil sample to determine cyst concn. The procedure is uncomplicated and rapid and provides accurate results.
