Tipping apparatus for raising and subsequently emptying relatively big refuse receptacles (1), in particular for emptying refuse receptacles into a refuse collecting vehicle, consisting of a swing arm (4), pivoted on a supporting frame which is fixed or connected to the refuse collecting vehicle (2), respectively, a lever rectangle (5), carried by the swing arm (4) and formed by an inner lever (11) in form of the section of the swing arm (4) averted from the pivot bearing, an upper lever (12) and a lower lever (13) both of which are pivoted on the swing arm (4), and a supporting lever (6) for supporting of the refuse collecting vehicle, the swinging motion of the lower lever (13) relative to the swing arm (4) being limited in the lifting direction by a stop (28), the tipping apparatus furthermore consisting of a lifting cylinder (7) for pivoting the lever rectangle (5), said lifting cylinder being also pivoted on the supporting frame at a position spaced from the pivot bearing (9), characterized in that the pivot point (24) of the lifting cylinder (7) is located above the pivot bearing (9) of the swing arm (4) and is staggered with respect to the swing arm rearwardly in the direction towards the supporting lever (6), that the lifting rod (25) of the lifting cylinder (7) engages with the lower lever (13) between its bearings (15, 17), and that the lower lever (13) is longer than the upper lever (12) and the supporting lever (6) is longer than the inner lever (11).
