To produce a roll tampon (24) with a fleece wrapping in a technically simple way and with the use of as little fleece material as possible, a fleece portion (10) having the length of a roll circumference is placed onto a longitudinal portion (6) of a sliver of wadding, in such a way that the longitudinal ends (11, 12) of the portion (6) of the sliver of wadding and the fleece portion (10) lie one on top of the other.
