In a beet-harvesting machine, the beet are lifted at the front and conveyed to the rear end of the machine via a screen band guided underneath the harvesting machine. From the narrow screen band, the beet are delivered onto a beet-receiving device which corresponds approximately to the machine width and from which the beet are conveyed upwards via an elevator corresponding approximately to the width of the beet-receiving device and are delivered onto a transfer band or into the beet bunker. The beet bunker is designed so that it has, in the bottom region, one or more conveyor worms which can transfer the bunkered beet onto the beet-receiving device, so that the bunkered beet can be moved and therefore continuously cleaned in an intermediate circuit consisting of the beet-receiving device, elevator and beet bunker.
