In such high-current layer windings, conductors (1 to 8) which are electrically in parallel are physically crossed over with respect to one another in radial channels (11) in order to achieve an identical overall flux linkage for each individual one of the conductors (1 to 8). According to the invention, a voltage-dependent resistor (12) is located on at least one radial channel (11) between at least two of the conductors (1 to 8) which are electrically in parallel. High-current layer windings which are connected in such a manner can be constructed from conductors having relatively thin insulating material coverings and in consequence ensure very good utilisation of the space available for the winding and at the same time good dissipation of the heat losses which are produced as a result of the unavoidable losses in the winding.
