In order to be able to transmit a digital narrowband signal (SBSc) without interruption even when a digital signal (DS1a) (which contains a broadband signal and forms a time-division multiplex signal (DS2) with the narrowband signal (SBSc)) is replaced by another (DS1b, DS1c), the digital signals (DS1a-DS1c) are provided at equidistant grid intervals in their pulse frames with time slots for incorporation of the narrowband signal (SBSc). Each newly connected digital signal (DS1b, DS1c) is buffered in such a manner that the equidistance between the time slots is maintained at the injection location, although the frame tag word (RKW1) of the connected digital signal (DS1b, DS1c) can make a random phase change. For this purpose, an elastic memory is required which need have only spaces for accommodating the bits at the grid interval. At the reception end, the narrowband signal (SBSc) can be extracted again after synchronisation to the time slots. IMAGE
