In order to reduce the oxidation tendency existing at temperatures above 800 DEG C of anodes prepared from carbon powder for aluminium pots, especially of those containing vanadium as a natural impurity, the starting material based on carbon, reduced in size, is doped with an oxidation inhibitor, consisting of manganese and boron or cobalt and boron. To this end, the size-reduced starting material is treated with a solution of at least one chemical compound.
