The invention relates to a method for magnetic separation using a matrix ring magnetic separator, compressed air jets being in each case blown, for a short time and at intervals, through one chamber of the matrix ring, in the region of the magnetic field for removal of the non-magnetic components of the material. By these means, in the case of material which is fed in a dry state, a high flow rate can be achieved with a good separation effect and a low energy requirement.
