The machine, for replacing sections of rail has a beam, mounted like a bridge on two vehicles, further apart than the rail sections length. Their chassis have two rail-mounted axles, and two endless tracks for travel on the ballast. On each chassis, the two axles are located between the two endless tracks. The latter are movable and adjustable, first, crossways, to permit the rail assembly to span the sleepers, and, second, vertically, to raise the chassis far enough for its axles to be set on a flat flat-bed goods wagon. The beam has a series of hoist devices, with lifting members movable and adjustable across the rails.
