The package comprises a receptacle receiving the poultry and a plastic film envelope which is shrinkable or stretchable. The receptacle is made of cardboard which can be printed over all of its surface and is coated with a film of thermoplastic material, such as polyethylene, which makes the cardboard waterproof, renders it self-adhesive under the effect of heat and which can be printed when the coating is on both sides. The receptacle is advantageously in two parts, a tray 1 and a holding strip 2, fixed on two opposite sides of the tray and applied on the body of the poultry 29 in order to retain the latter in the tray, which is shaped by folding and gluing a cardboard blank in such a way that it forms a housing 28 for the rear part of the body and the lower part of the thighs of the poultry.
