PURPOSE:To improve efficiency, by a method wherein, in a title burner used for tundish preheat and the like, fuel is fed as a rectilinear stream at a given velocity of flow, and the fuel is exhausted through a burner tip, the tip of which is positioned in a range of from the inside of a furnace to the outside of a furnace, and a rectilinear flame is formed. CONSTITUTION:When a burner 9 is mounted to a combustion furnace 3 and the like, a burner tip 1 is extended so that the tip thereof does not protrude through a furnace wall surface 2 to the inside of the furnace. Fuel gas is rectilinearly fed through a fuel passage 5a along an axis, and is exhausted at a speed of 1-20m/sec or more through the burner tip 1. Meanwhile, by means of exhaust gas sucked through an exhaust gas suction port 4 at a speed lower than the exhaust speed by means of an ejector 7, air for combustion introduced through a feed port 8 is preheated. Fuel gas and air for preheat combustion are mixed together to form a rectilinear flame for combustion. This constitution improves efficiency, and prevents damage of a burner tip.
