RECOVERY OF VALUABLE SUBSTANCE FROM BY-PRODUCTS OF HYDROFORMYLATION

PURPOSE:To recover valuable components of aldehyde, by treating a catalyst solution containing high boiling by-products formed on the hydroformylation of an olefinic compound using a specific rhodium complex catalyst with steam to decompose the by-products. CONSTITUTION:In the production of an aldehyde by hydroformylation of an olefin in the presence of a rhodium complex catalyst containing an oxide of trivalent organophosphorus compound as a ligand, the catalyst solution containing rhodium complex and high-boiling by-products is exhausted from the reaction system, treated with steam over 100 deg.C, preferably at 120-200 deg.C, particularly 130-200 deg.C to decompose the by-products and recover valuable substances in the form of aldehyde or alcohol. The recovered products are effectively utilized to increase economical efficiency.
