PURPOSE:To obtain an Mn-Zn based single crystal ferrite having a high S/N ratio, by adding GeO2 at a specific ratio to a matrix consisting of iron oxide and zinc oxide in respective specific proportions and the remainder of manganese oxide. CONSTITUTION:The above-mentioned single crystal ferrite of this invention is obtained by adding 0.1-5.0wt.% GeO2 to an Mn-Zn based single crystal ferrite containing 50-65mol.% iron oxide and 13-26mol.% zinc oxide and the remainder of manganese oxide. The S/N ratio can be further enhanced by containing =0.5wt.% one or more of SiO2, CaO, Co2O3, TiO2 and V2O5 as an auxiliary component in the above-mentioned Mn-Zn based single crystal ferrite. The single crystal ferrite of this invention can be suitable used as magnetic heads for recording and reproducing VTR images, etc.
