TREATMENT OF IRON SAND FOR DESILICONIZATION OF MOLTEN IRON

PURPOSE:To obtain iron sand which can be charged into molten iron for the desiliconization of molten iron, effectively at a low cost, by decreasing the water-content of water-containing iron sand by the solid-gas heat-exchange in the course of the transport of the iron sand with hot gas containing fine dusts and produced by the combustion of quick lime. CONSTITUTION:The water-containing iron and charged from the truck to the receiving hopper 1 is transferred via the belt feeder 2 and the bucket elevator 3 to the feed hopper 4, and supplied intermittently at a prescribed rate by the belt feeder 9 and the rotary valve 10. The hot exhaust gas X of about 200-270 deg.C produced by the combustion of quick lime and containing fine dust is optionally mixed with the cold air introduced through the cold air duct 7 to control the temperature, and is used as a carrier gas to transport said water-containing iron sand. In the course of transfer of the iron sand through the vertical ascent part 61 and the vertical descent part 62, the water-content of the sand is decreased. The dried iron sand and fine powder of the quick lime are separated from the gas with the preduster 8 and the bag filter 13, introduced into the recovery hopper 12, and discharged through the discharged gate 16 to the desiliconization facility. The waste gas is exhausted to the atomosphere by the blower 16.
