Several autonomous multiple operator's position exchanges, each with their own external trunk groups, are connected to a higher- ranking exchange, where each group of call-handling or information positions, each of which is connected to a multiple operator's position exchange, not only has access to the external lines of its own multiple operator's position exchange but also has connection elements of the higher-ranking exchange. Designated external lines of any other multiple operator's position exchange can be reached via these connection elements, so that a call-handling or information position of a first group acts in this case as a call-handling or information position of another group, which is connected to another multiple operator's position exchange.
