METHOD OF CULTIVATING PLANT PLANKTON USING WATER IN DEEP LAYER OF OCEAN

PURPOSE:To eliminate necessity of addition of inorganic nutritive salt and sterilization, by using water in deep layer of the ocean rich in inorganic nitritive salts, and containing a small amount of pathogenic germs, artificially contaminated materials, etc., as a culture solution for plant plankton. CONSTITUTION:Water in deep layer of the ocean rich in inorganic nutritive salts, and containing a small amount of pathogenic germs, artificially contaminated materials, etc. (e.g., water drawn up from at a depth of =500m) blended with a water-soluble chelating agent and water on the surface of the ocean is used as a culture solution for plant plankton (e.g., marine diatom). Cultivation can be carried out while yield of plant plankton and particle diameter of cell are being controlled by operating dilution rate of the culture solution of continuous cultivation and concentration of the inorganic nutritive salt. The concentration of the water-soluble chelate solution is preferably 1.4-8.4mu equivalents in the culture solution. The blending ratio of the water in the surface of the ocean is preferably 30-80wt%.
