PURPOSE:To make highly accurate measurement of a floating head slider possible by exciting a medium in the direction perpendicular to the face by a vibrator that constitutes a part of parts which is connected to a spindle or a part of the spindle and supports the medium. CONSTITUTION:A spindle 21 can be supported rigidly by a static pressure pneumatic bearing 22, and a vibrator 23 can also be constituted at high rigidity, and accordingly, high supporting rigidity similar to an ordinary pneumatic bearing spindle can be obtained. As the rotary parts including the spindle 21 is floated up perfectly by the static pressure pneumatic bearing 22 through an air film, the amplitude of vibration caused by exciting force of the vibrator 23 is proportionally distributed to a inverse proportion of mass of upper and lower working parts connected to the vibrator 23. Accordingly, by making the mass of the spindle 21 and accessory parts sufficiently large to the mass of a magnetic recording medium 8 and its supporting part, the detour of vibration from the fixed part of a slider supporting mechanism 10 is lowered sufficiently, and influences on the dynamic characteristic due to setting error is lowered.
